CAIN

“You’d make more if you had better bourbon.”

My muscles tighten at that voice.

One that belongs to the head of a man who I’d love to use as a stress ball.

“I don’t have many entitled pricks walking into my place, so I do just fine,” I reply, continuing to pour my drink for one of my customers.

“You don’t need to be a prick to appreciate good liquor.”

I flick my attention up to my younger brother, finding Warren in a Tom Ford suit that he spent way too much money on and that he honestly believes makes him God’s gift to women. “What can I help you with?”

“I figured you wanted my attention.” He begins picking at the white napkins in their holder in front of him as though it’s something interesting to do. “You did sign my name on the contract.”

“If you thought me calling you by your old nickname was an invitation, Warren, I’m not sure how you got this far in life.” I toss a sliced lime into my customer’s drink. “Oh wait, Dad.”

Warren’s eyes slice back to me. “Lamont Beverage wouldn’t be where it is without me.”

“Yet you want me as a client for some reason.” I lift the drink in a silent salute. “Go fuck yourself, brother.”

Ambling down my bar, I drop it off to one of my regulars and still find Warren sitting in the same place he was before.

I’m not surprised.

I just didn’t think he’d show up here. But he always enjoyed fighting with me and losing, so he must miss it.

“I figured if I sent Holly here that you might change your mind.”

I scoff, because obviously it didn’t. However, I can’t say that I shouldn’t thank him for the free fuck and blowjob. “Why?”

“Because she’s beautiful and smart.”

And sexy and so goddamn addicting, it’s a sin.

Regardless, she doesn’t erase the past with my family and the fact that they won’t fuck off already. And what’s even more mind-boggling is that I wasn’t that bad of a kid growing up.

I just wanted to venture out on my own without my father’s name getting me there.

Independence.

What’s wrong with that?

“What does that have to do with anything?” I retort back. “I’m not easily swayed by pussy.”

“Maybe you’d get further in life if you were.” I have no fucking idea what that means but Warren keeps yapping anyway. “You’re not going to lose by signing up with the brand, Cain. I don’t know why you have to be so selfish with it.”

I blink at him a few times because I’m not sure if we’re on the same planet at this point. “I’m not. I don’t think you know the definition of the word.”

He rolls his eyes. “I’ll keep Holly on if you want to deal with her, but think of your future and what it could hold with more product and better beer.”

“Anything else?”

Warren furrows his brows. “You didn’t like Holly?”

“She was fine.”

“Then it’s the family.” It’s not a question but an observant comment. One he should’ve caught on to already, but my brother is like an elevator that doesn’t reach the top floor.
